This lecture explains the key components of network delay, including propagation, transmission, and queuing delays, along with the concept of the bandwidth-delay product (BDP). You’ll understand how the BDP quantifies the number of bits “in flight” between sender and receiver. Using examples, the lecture illustrates how factors such as bandwidth, propagation time, and traffic patterns influence total network delay. Finally, the session introduces Little’s Law (L = A _ W), a fundamental relationship connecting queue length, arrival rate, and waiting time in network buffers.
