Tesla Placing Giga Berlin’s Drive Unit Roof Against Opposition

The revised plans for the Tesla factory planned in Grünheide were publicly available on Monday for the last time. After Tesla published the first approval documents in January, citizens now had another month to look at the revised documents.

The 23 files about Tesla Giga Berlin were on display in the town halls in Grünheide and Erkner, in the State Environment Agency in Frankfurt (Oder), and in the Spreenhagen office. In contrast to comparable industrial settlements, Tesla has also published all of the documents on the Internet. "The online interpretation is of paramount importance," explains Ulrich Stock of the State Environment Agency, who is currently reviewing the documents. "We have more than 18,000 hits there. There are 28 inspections in the town halls."
Citizens and associations now have until September 3 to submit objections about Tesla Giga Berlin about the plans to the State Environment Agency. The first filing, filed by Tesla on December 19, received 370 objections. Objections now submitted must relate to the revised parts of the documents. This should not be difficult, however, because the revised documents are more than twice as extensive as those published in January. According to Ulrich Stock, 10 objections to the new documents have been received so far. The department head expects more at the end of the period.

The Giga Berlin objections must be discussed publicly. Before that, the State Environment Agency may not finally approve the project. Because of the corona spacing restrictions, the federal government has permitted hearings on the Internet by law. But the State Environment Agency has other plans for the Tesla settlement. "We are aiming for a face-to-face meeting," says Ulrich Stock. "We assume that the public is very interested in a direct confrontation between those affected and the applicant."

The discussion is currently scheduled for September 23 in the town hall in Erkner. If necessary, the debate should continue on the 24th. The State Environment Agency is currently working on a hygiene concept for the event. According to Ulrich Stock, the officials are also considering transferring the discussion live to a second room if there is a large crowd.
