PAUSE FOR THE SOUL

I wrote this poem and made this little short film for those who are out there working so hard on a dream - hustling, racing, focused on achieving goals - that we can forget to stop and be kind to the body and the soul and just nourish ourselves. Sometimes it can feel like a waste of time to not create anything if you're an artist, or not take care of others if you have a family, or not achieve results in a day if you're an entrepreneur or business owner. I believe it's important for our stress levels and our ability to make good decisions and create innovative beautiful work to sometimes do nothing but play, like a child, like the people we were before we thought about earning money, studying, taking on the responsibilities of life from which so many of us feel pressure. Your weary soul
These twisted sheets
The world outside
Those ancient streets
These ancient questions
Will I make it?
Will I love?
And could you fake it?
Days you just don't feel
Quite whole
You feed your doubts
You lie and scroll
And lying to yourself you say
I can't stop now
Too much at stake
But this is when you need
To pause
And find that thing
Without applause
It doesn't bring you
Likes or gold
Not on your list
It can't be sold
And you may hear
The ticking clock
Each beat confirming
All you're not
I know you're tired
You want so much
You're treading water
Feet can't touch
And what if this is it
You cry
A life where
All you do is try
And nothing seems
To move you up
You're pouring from
An empty cup
But racing to
The finish line
My love, it leaves you
Broke and blind
Remind your soul
Of when you played
That gentle child
You let them fade
They've missed you so
They tried to stay
You've been so busy
Lost your way
While you were focused
Being strong
Ticking boxes
Lists so long
You took such care
Of every goal
You just forgot
To feed your soul
So take your body
Somewhere kind
Do something childish
Undefined
Forget the world
And all her noise
The world can wait
You need this joy
Tomorrow conquer
Distant shores
Today your soul
Just let it pause.
