Working Smart in Small Spaces

Working in small spaces especially with larger crews can be quite the challenge, but there are some general guidelines that I like to follow when working in them.

1. Use all of your big sources OUTSIDE. This frees up a lot of space for your crew and smaller fixtures, and in general is a good rule to follow.
2. Use negatives and materials on the INSIDE. Use these to your advantage as they generally don't take up much room. Shape the light how you see fit.
3. Light with PRACTICALS. Use practicals when you can to your advantage for extra motivation for your small sources and to fill certain pockets on camera.
4. Keep it SIMPLE. Sometimes working in small spaces calls you to just keep it simple, even down to one light source. Look at what's going on in the room and just enhance that.
