US Treasury Sanctions Iran-Linked Crypto Wallets, Freezing $344 Million, Bessent Says

The U.S. Treasury Department is sanctioning multiple cryptocurrency wallets tied to Iran, resulting in the freeze of $344 million in digital assets primarily Tether (USDT) stablecoins held in two addresses on the Tron network Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced. Bessent stated that the action targets financial channels used by Tehran, adding: “We will follow the money that Tehran is desperately attempting to move outside of the country and target all financial lifelines tied to the regime.” The move, carried out in coordination with Tether following information from U.S. authorities linking the wallets to Iranian exchanges and Central Bank of Iran-associated activity, forms part of broader efforts to disrupt Iran’s use of cryptocurrency to evade sanctions.
