Ee Wei: 'I want to defend my world title but I need magic'

Malaysian mixed doubles star Toh Ee Wei admitted it will take a miracle for her to defend her crown at the upcoming World Championships in New Delhi.

A torn ACL sustained at the Singapore Open has effectively ended her hopes of competing alongside partner Chen Tang Jie.

The reigning world champion revealed she has undergone a crucial MRI scan and will know in the coming days if surgery is required.

Despite the devastating setback, Ee Wei remains dedicated to a strict rehabilitation programme at the Academy Badminton Malaysia.

She has also encouraged Tang Jie to continue partnering junior player Clarissa Tan at the upcoming Japan Open and China Open, as well as with other players.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia and sports institutes are currently exploring the best treatment options for Ee Wei, including potential overseas medical care.
