A Muslim sister was getting married. She was all dressed up as a bride and waiting. The groom was delayed in arriving. Before he reached, the call to prayer (Adhan) echoed from the mosque. She heard it and stood up, saying, “I need to offer my prayer.”

Her friends and mother tried to stop her. They said, “Are you crazy? We’ve spent thousands preparing you. The one for whom you’ve dressed up hasn’t even arrived yet, hasn’t even seen you. If you perform ablution (wudu) now and pray, all your makeup and attire will be ruined. Just wait. What’s the big deal if you skip today’s prayer? You can pray later.”

But she, filled with faith, said something powerful:
“I am first a servant of my Lord, and then someone’s wife. The first right over me is that of Allah. The one who was supposed to see me hasn’t come — that’s okay. But my Allah is watching. The Adhan has been called, and His servant is still sitting? I cannot displease my Lord.”
