Don't Buy Studio Monitors Until You Watch This Video

Watch this video before buying Studio Monitors. To achieve great Mixing & Mastering results, you need to make objective decisions. But to make objective decisions you need a good monitoring environment that objectively represents what's actually going on in the audio.

I describe what I've learned in Part 1 of the "Mixing Secrets" book by Mike Senior. Frequency response is not the only thing to pay attention to when selecting monitors, but also time decay of those frequencies, whether they are ported or sealed monitors, or whether they have single or multiple drivers.

More over, you need to have an objective monitoring environment, and acoustic treatment is key to achieving this. You should spend as much on acoustic treatment as you do on studio monitors.

Then you need to place your studio monitors and listening position in an optimal location. If you want to go even further I suggest measuring your monitoring with software like Sonarworks Reference 4.
