CGN Lunch and Learn with Dr. Address Malata: “Nursing and Midwifery in Africa: A Case for Malawi”

Dr. Malata serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Malawi University of Science and Technology, where she made history as the first woman to hold this prestigious role at a public university in Malawi. Beyond her groundbreaking leadership, Dr. Malata is a distinguished figure in international nursing and midwifery organizations. She is widely recognized as a powerful speaker, accomplished author, and tireless advocate for women’s empowerment.

In addition to her many achievements, Dr. Malata is the recipient of the 2024-2025 UCSF Presidential Chair Award and is serving as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UCSF. In this role, she is leading efforts to develop innovative, bidirectional graduate degree programs that promote equity and understanding in global health education. Her work bridges UCSF, the Malawi University of Science and Technology, and other global partners, creating impactful collaborations to advance health equity worldwide.
