A scene covering Princess Diana’s death in August 1997 was reportedly due to be filmed in Barcelona, with Elizabeth Debicki playing the late Princess.
The publication reported, via Twitter: ‘Today a scene from The Crown, the Netflix series, was going to be shot in the Jardinets de Garcia.’
The report continued: ‘It has been suspended for the death of Elizabeth II. There are currently operators watching the sets.’
Her partner, Dodi Fayed, and the driver of the Mercedes-Benz W140, Henri Paul, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Since its premiere in 2016, the Netflix series has absorbed viewers across the globe with its dramatisation of what life is like for the royal family behind the closed doors of Buckingham Palace.
In the first series, Claire Foy played the young Queen Elizabeth II, before Colman took over in the series that followed, with Staunton set to make her debut in season five.
Stephen Daldry, who has directed various episodes of The Crown, previously opened up about what would happen in the instance of the Queen’s death.
He said: ‘None of us know when that time will come but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen. It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She’s a global figure and it’s what we should do.’
Daldry added: ‘She’s an extraordinary woman and people will be upset.’
‘Something hit me as I walked through that door,’ she told Vogue.
‘I was suddenly aware that being royal is no privilege. They are constantly on, they cannot ever slip off their shoes in public. Celebrities choose fame. Royals have it thrust on them.’
News of the Queen’s death was announced in a statement from Buckingham Palace yesterday, which read: ‘The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.’
