Those Are Emails That I'll Never Get Back | Song A Day #4185

I met her in the lobby
Of a hotel in DC
I was 12 years old
She was the same age as me
She lived in California
I was in Vermont
She kissed me in the stairwell
And my heart went bump bump bump

Those are emails that I’ll never get back
Even if by some miracle the 1s and 0s intact
Because my AOL screen name well that’s long gone
I’ll never know what 12 year old me was thinking

Was my first year of high school
She was 16
I said, “Unborned is my screen name”
And she instant messaged me
She blew into my life
Just like a bomb
Holed up in her basement
And the wild night after prom

Those are emails that I’ll never get back
Even if by some miracle the 1s and 0s intact
Because my AOL screen name well that’s long gone
I’ll never know what 12 year old me was thinking
