Sheffield United: The Resurrection - 2005/06 Season Review

When Sheffield United were relegated on the final day of the season back in 1994, No-one would have believed that it would've been the start of a 12 year absence from the Top Flight. What followed was a period of mixed fortunes and uncertainty for the club as the Blades went through a succession of managers and went further and further into debt. In December 1999, the club turned to self confessed Sheffield United fan Neil Warnock in a bid to re-establish the Blades as a promotion challenger. At this time though with over £20 Million of debt, the priority was cutting costs and wages. But slowly, United regrouped going from strength to strength both on and off the field, Reaching the Semi Finals of the FA Cup, League Cup and the Division One Play Off Finals in 2003. 2004 and 05 saw Sheffield United narrowly miss out on a place in the play offs, finishing 8th in both seasons. Finally in April 2006, Neil Warnock's ultimate goal was achieved as Sheffield United secured their place back amongst the elite of English Football, The Premiership.

This season review also features the memorable Derby Double over Wednesday where Alan Quinn made history in the Home fixture by becoming the first player to score for both Sheffield sides in the Steel city Derby.
