Leybold Coolpower 7/25 Cold Head / Cryocooler with DIY Helium Compressor Kaltkopf

Since i could not source a compressor for a reasonable price I had to build one myself.
Some additional notes are in the video description!

-Oil cooling is absolutely essential, without it will overheat in no time
the most of the drive power simply goes into the oil, cooling down the helium is the smaller part.
Commercial units often use a water cooling jacket around the compressor but air cooling suits my needs better and with that direct oil cooling is easier.
You might get away without using a additional oil pump, the commercial units can at least.
Using the pressure differential should be more than enough to transport the oil through the cooler, however you have to meter the cooling oil flow into the suction side, if it gets to high the compressor sounds sick and won't hold up very long i believe. Compressing liquids is problematic :)

-Oil mist must be kept away from the cold head at all cost, it will jam within hours if gets oil in it.
If you coldhead gets oil in i you have to tear it apart and clean it thoroughly.
On my unit I was able to tell because it startet hammering like crazy, on a motor drive displacer this may act different(my coldhead is pneumatic drive).
On the here displayed system the oil problem seems solved.
