Le Macioche 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Italian Premium Wine Review

Le Macioche ("May Chalk A") was established in 1985 by the Mazzochi Family. The winery is named after the Sienese word "macioca", which is the root of the strawberry trees, which are situated on the property. In 2014 it was sold to 3 Veronese entrepreneurs and then sold to the Cotarella family in 2017, who also own Falesco.

The estate is about 6 hectares, of which half is used to plant Sangiovese Grosso grapes. The rest is used to plant grapes for their IGT wines, to grow olives and to allow the strawberry trees to grow. The estate is situated about 450 metres above sea level, has south to southwest exposure and clay (galestro rock) soil. It is located near famous wineries like Fattoria dei Barbi.

Grapes are handpicked. Since it is a Brunello, it must be aged 5 years with a minimum of 2 years in wood and a minimum of 4 months in bottle. About 12,500 bottles of this wine was produced for the 2011 vintage.
