"The Kingston Trio: Then & Now" A 60th Anniversary! Director: Chip Miller

This short promotional documentary video was to serve as both a prototype of a feature-length documentary celebrating the 60th anniversary of The Kingston Trio (in development for 2019), and announce the 2016-2018 PBS Television Live Pledge Special Concert, "The Kingston Trio Celebration" - An All-Star Concert filmed at the Avalon Hollywood Theater (formerly the legendary Hollywood Palace)! The historic event celebrated the legacy of The Kingston Trio. Along with the 2003-2017 Kingston Trio (Bill Zorn, George Grove & Rick Dougherty), the concert featured an historic last performance by the legendary Bob Shane, now 85, who was the co-founder of the Trio with the late Nick Reynolds and Dave Guard, and is now the sole surviving member of the original Trio (in the early 60's, the late, great John Stewart, replace Guard).

For ten years, the Trio reigned and ruled the charts. At Capitol Records, the top selling artists of all time, were The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, and...The Kingston Trio.

The official PBS concert event took place on June 21st and June 22nd, with ten cameras filming a full dress rehearsal on the 21st, and the big main live event on the 22nd in front of a sell-out crowd. Award-winning filmmaker, Chip Miller, directed and co-produced the event and taping. Starring in the final show, beside The Kingston Trio and Bob Shane, are Al Jardine of The Beach Boys, Timothy B. Schmit of The Eagles, Barry "Eve of Destruction" McGuire of The New Christy Minstrels, Trini Lopez, The Limeliters, Gaylan Taylor, Henry Diltz (Modern Folk Quartet), Josh Reynolds (son of the Trio's late Nick Reynolds), Sana Christian, actress/model Shari Belafonte, and Paul Gabrielson. The concert was line produced by Travis Miller; produced by Terrel Cass & Chip Miller; executive produced by George Jensen & Barry Speyers, associate produced by Bobbie Childress & Wood Allen. Bryan Greenberg was the DP/main camera, and Cameron Cannon and video pioneer Bill Dear were key camera operators. Miller edited at DCAM Studios Post facility.
John Wroble mixed final sound, with Chip Miller and Bill Zorn overseeing the mix. In January 2017, the official DVD and CD soundtrack was released through PBS TV and is also available directly from Desert C.A.M. Studios.

This promotional mini-documentary which appears on the DVD as a bonus, demonstrates the Trio's legacy lives on as well as their awesome music.

The live concert footage used in this doc video, was from a live concert shoot in Borrego Springs at the Dreamweaver Amphitheater that Chip Miller also directed; as well as excerpts from an interview with Bob Shane by San Francisco KDFC On-Air Radio Personality Ray White; and from five music videos that Bob and the Trio performed at the Desert C.A.M. Studios green screen stage. The videos will all be released to VH-1, CMT, and BBC in 2019 to promote the new second 2019 TV special. All were helmed by Miller as well. Producer was Travis Miller who also edited.

This is a presentation of Desert C.A.M. Studios/Winmill Film & TV Productions - Copyrighted 2017, 2018 & 2019.
