C-Clamp Bearing Removal & Bearing Press | Tensioner Pulley | Jeep Cherokee XJ

With simple tools I remove a worn bearing and press in the new bearing on the tensioner pulley for our 2000 Jeep XJ (4 liter). This pulley is critical to keeping your serpentine belt tight. If it's been a while since you've changed your serpentine belt, order one, and check the bearing in this pulley while you are at it.

The C-Clamp method I use in this video may work on many other similar pulleys with pressed bearings. I would have probably had easier bearing replacement success if I had pre-soaked the old bearing and pulley with WD-40.

At the time of recording this video I bought the pair of bearings (I like to have a backup) for under $16. There are cheaper bearings, but I’m not going to “roll the dice” to save $4/bearing on this job. Skip your next Starbucks run and buy a quality bearing ;)
