The commander of the US Northern Command, General Gregory Guillot, during his testimony to Congress, stated that the threat of a direct clash between the United States and key adversaries, including Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, is growing.

In a strategic report published on the US Congress website, Guillot stressed that several key geopolitical trends are leading to a gradual increase in the likelihood of direct confrontation with these states.

Russia's aggression against Ukraine, which has been going on for four years, could lead to a direct clash between the United States and Russia under certain scenarios. At the same time, an escalation in the Middle East, in particular as a result of the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, creates the risk of the United States being drawn into a conflict with Iran and its allied armed groups. General Guillot notes that strategic cooperation between China and Russia, as well as their transactional relationships with Iran and North Korea, are taking on the characteristics of a potential military alliance. Such interactions could transform local conflicts into broader regional or global confrontations. According to Guillot, China has already deployed surface ships with cruise missiles in the Bering Sea and is actively developing strategic forces - nuclear submarines and bombers with the ability to refuel in the air. Russia, meanwhile, has resumed patrols with heavy bombers off the North American coast and integrated modern submarines into its fleet. In parallel, North Korea and Iran continue to develop missile systems and cyber weapons that can pose a threat to critical U.S. infrastructure.

The report emphasizes that these factors combine to shape both traditional and nontraditional security challenges to the United States around the world, from Europe and the Middle East to the Indo-Pacific and North America.

In response, Pentagon analysts are calling for stronger defense capabilities, stronger alliance ties, and more preemptive deterrence strategies to avoid further escalation and keep the continent safe.

Let us recall that earlier the German Federal Intelligence Service came to the conclusion that Russia perceives relations with the West as a systemic conflict and is preparing for a major war with NATO.

It was noted that the Kremlin is ready to use force to achieve its goals and by the end of the decade may be fully prepared for a "large-scale conventional war." According to the Lithuanian intelligence service VSD, Moscow is not yet in a position to attack the entire alliance, but can "test NATO" by conducting a limited military operation against one or more member countries.
