Carbonating Everything in a SodaStream

The KitchenAid SodaStream will carbonate anything. We put it to the test.

Here is what we tested during our SodaStream review process:

Water - when we carbonated water it was not quite as bubbly as La Croix or other canned carbonated drinks, but it was still good!

Water with flavoring - whoops! During this experiment, the container burst off the SodaStream!

Orange juice - after our blooper, we took it slower because orange juice carbonates more than water does. The orange juice was a little bit too thick for the carbonation to be noticeable.

Apple juice - we liked the carbonated apple juice! It was better than the orange juice.

Coconut water - the carbonated coconut water turned out pretty good! It was definitely carbonated, and it tasted good.

White wine - we chose white wine because it has a lower viscosity and lower sugar content than red wine, and we were afraid of making a mess and staining our kitchen with red wine! It turned out very bubbly, almost like a glass of sweet champagne.

Whiskey - our tester did not enjoy the carbonated whiskey - but it was definitely carbonated!

Vodka - the vodka did end up carbonated and still tasted like vodka.

Re-carbonating flat beer - when we tried to re-carbonate flat beer, it tasted moderately more carbonated. It tasted like it had been sitting out for an hour, rather than 12 hours.

Carbonated milk - we hypothesized that this wouldn't become too highly carbonated, because it doesn't have a high sugar content and it is thick. The experiment worked - the milk became carbonated, but it tasted very weird.

Egg whites - yuck!

Distilled white vinegar - double yuck!

Cold drip coffee - our carbonated coffee was terrible!

Sriracha in water - this turned out spicy, kind of like bloody mary mix when we carbonated it

Soylent - if you haven't heard of it, Soylent is supposed to be a complete meal replacement. We would drink this! It wasn't as bad as we had feared.

Cough syrup - will this make it easier for kids to take cough medicine if it's carbonated? It tastes pretty good bubbled!

Mr. Bubbles bubble bath - it smelled almost like the DayQuil we carbonated. We did NOT drink this, but it certainly got bubbly!
