Cardano's one-second block interval makes efficient block construction critical, especially compared to Bitcoin’s 10-minute interval. This new approach allows block producers to maximize transaction fees within tight time constraints. The research team demonstrated that the algorithm increased transaction fee revenues by an average of $1,300 per day during tests spanning 211,000 blocks. This improvement equates to roughly $475,000 annually, all achieved with minimal computational delay—just 0.31 seconds on average per block. The real-world implications are substantial. For Cardano, this means enhanced block producer profitability without requiring major changes to the protocol or infrastructure. Additionally, the algorithm is scalable and designed to perform well even as transaction volume grows. Beyond Cardano, the approach could be adapted to other blockchains, showcasing its versatility.
