I've dug myself into a hole...

Building 5000 sq ft is tough without a giant crew...This video is brought to you by Squarespace, for a 10% discount go to https://www.squarespace.com/anneofalltrades
Have you ever started a project only to realize a little too late, you're in way over your head? I've dug myself into a bit of a hole with this craft school build, it is a giant project, one that I definitely couldn't tackle on my own, so I called in a few farmer friends to help. Daniel, Tim, Parker and I are doing an old fashioned barn raising, setting 22 1000 pound posts in the ground with some farm hacks, muscle, and, believe it or not, some string. Pole barn construction is not something I'm familiar with, but moving and setting these giant posts in the heat of the summer, I'm certainly building a huge appreciation for the enormity of this project. We squared the entire building and set the giant posts, not using the giant machines and lasers I thought we'd use, but a simple string line. Daniel taught me how to use a string line the same way I'd used one to build a fence, to build an enormous building. My mind was blown! Though I really don't know what I'm doing, and building this building was a huge step of faith for so many reasons (mainly financial), this project is just further proof that anything we want to do is totally "figureouttable," especially if you know the right person to call. Daniel has built a lot of pole barns, and this is definitely the biggest building he's tackled, but it's coming along really nicely, we are all working great together, and having a whole lot of fun in the process. Homesteading creates a certain sense of self-sufficiency, but far better than total self-sufficiency is building a community of folks who can work together to make true magic happen. This project is so much more than building my dream shop, I am so excited to open a craft school where people like me can come together to learn all kinds of things from permaculture farming techniques to cutting dovetails, to forging nails by hand, to learn together and build confidence and community at the same time.

I bought this pole barn building kit from Barn Pro's check them out at https://www.barnpros.com

I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable." I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break, and build the things I need. 8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool.
