Sebastian Stan Interview Destroyer

With director Karyn Kusama’s Destroyer now playing in limited release, I recently sat down with Sebastian Stan to talk about making the film. During the wide-ranging interview, Stan talked about filming the bank sequence and trying to make it authentic, why having a limited shooting schedule can be a good thing, his look in the film (including getting a tattoo of his mom), what the past few years have been like working on projects like I, Tonya, The Bronze and Destroyer, and more. In addition, he talked about some making some improv-heavy projects including one that he calls a rom-com gone wrong and a project with director Drake Doremus.

If you haven’t seen the trailers for Destroyer, the neo-noir crime thriller is led by an incredible Nicole Kidman performance (one of the best of the year), which sees her playing a LAPD detective who is haunted by her undercover past. When the leader of an old gang she was after resurfaces, we follow Kidman as she tries to figure out where he is and that’s mixed with flashbacks that slowly reveal how her undercover operation years ago went so wrong. Scripted by The Invitation writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the film also stars Toby Kebbell, Bradley Whitford, Tatiana Maslany, Jade Pettyjohn, and Scoot McNairy.
