Xquisite X5. Best 50' Catamaran For Liveaboard. Full Tour. Annapolis Sailboat Show 2017.

Ep92. In this Episode of Cruising Off Duty, we will take you on a guided tour of the Xquisite X5, which is a modern state of the art 50' Catamaran from Xquisite Yachts. This Catamaran has won awards for Best Catamaran, Most Innovative Catamaran and Best Systems Installation. It is our favorite boat at the show, but it is also listed at $1,200,000 USD, so it is probably out of our price range. If we could afford it, we could easily live the rest of our sailing lives on this boat.

All the Custom boat builders we are about to show you in the upcoming episodes tend to build with higher quality material than the Mass Production boats we have shown you in past episodes. The custom boats also tend to include all the amenities like Solar Panels, Water Makers, Generators, Washer and Dryer, Entertainment Systems, Top notch navigation and engine systems and more as part of their List Price. So when you buy one of these Custom Catamarans, you really should not have to spend much or any at all to be able to live aboard. That is not the case with the Mass Production Cats that come mainly bare bones and the buyer has to be prepared to pay many tens of thousands of dollars putting extras on the boat to make it a Liveaboard Cat. This is because the Mass production boats sell most of their boats to the Charter industry and the Charter Industry doesn't want all the extras. They just want a large inexpensive Catamaran.

Now all of these extras already built into a Custom Cat comes at a price. There is usually a pretty hefty price tag on a 50+' Custom Cat of $900,000 to $1,200,000 but there is some solace for the bigger up front price tag. The Custom boats tend to keep their value higher and longer when used compared to a use mass production catamaran of the same size and age.

You pay more upfront for that custom boat but you will lose less in depreciation.

Janice and I have a few Custom Cats we really liked at the Annapolis Sailboat Show and when we are ready to buy we will certainly see if we can pick up one of our favorite custom Cats used at a discount to the full list price.
