Backup TrueNAS SCALE Datasets to Linode

In this video, I walk through the setup process to synchronize a dataset on TrueNAS SCALE with Linode object storage. Using this method, you can keep mission critical data synchronized with a cloud backup.

As we all know, RAID is not a backup, and even the best backup systems can go wrong, so keeping multiple copies of your data is always preferred for critical data. Of course, you can never rely on a backup without testing the restoration process, which I also explain in this video.

TrueNAS supports Amazon S3 natively, and with a little bit of tweaking we can use the S3 support to backup data to Linode object storage instead. TrueNAS also supports encrypted backups, and I explain the process of both creating encrypted backups and restoring them, as long as you keep the password safe.
