Lisboa, Portugal. Lisbon’s João Ervedosa has been releasing under the aliases Shcuro and José Acid since 2012. His devotion for sharing music shaped his practice into various realms: parallel to being a DJ and producer, Shcuro is also a graphic designer, label manager and radio host.
His outward influence began in earnest in 2016, putting together parties aiming to instigate and reinforce positive change in the local scene. First came Noite Paraíso at Lux Frágil, an extension of his label and show on Rádio Quântica. Their focus was on bringing together up and coming local talents with portuguese dance music pioneers. Then started House of Frágil, also at Lux Frágil together with Dexter, a night devoted to early house music. And finally, No Ufo’s with Photonz - a night at Planeta Manas devoted to the sci-fi sounds of electro and breakbeats.
He has collaborated with and remixed artists such as Lake Haze, Maria Amor, Photonz, Vil or Violet and written several EPs for labels like Acid Avengers, Dark Entries Records, Future Déjà Vu, Lobster Theremin and Naive.
Shcuro DJ sets are a hypnotic blend of modern and oldschool techno, electro, dub and breakbeats. Besides being a regular at Lux Frágil and Planeta Manas, he played in some of the most respected DJ booths all across Europe (Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, The Villa in Norway, Iboat in Bordeaux, Jasna 1 in Warsaw, Festival Forte, Boom Festival or Gare and Indústria in Porto), and high-profile radio stations like Rinse FM or Berlin Community Radio.
Always exploring new territories in modern dance music, he founded the techno vinyl label Sombra in 2014, focused on the darker and dirtier fringes of machine music, ambient and drone.
What followed in 2015 was Paraíso; a record label, club night and talk show on Rádio Quântica, focused on the rave sound created by Portuguese producers of the early 90s. This presented the next step in making his own vision of dance music with a new and exciting platform that celebrates the music that was once called “underground house music from a paradise called Portugal”. An homage to the portuguese rave sound that emerged in the mid 90’s and continues to tread its path today sprinkling the collective unconscious.
