Elif Shafak's novel Honour is a moving account of love and family set in Kurdistan, Istanbul and London, and with this, her eighth novel, this bestselling Turkish author is destined to become a major name in world literature. In this excerpt of her event, filmed live at Edinburgh International Book Festival in August 2012, Elif Shafak talks to Diana Hope about the notion of honour and what it means in some societies, touching on gender, religion and family duty, and she gives a short reading of her story.
