The New Expectation for Customer Insight in an AI Era

A few months ago, I watched a product demo that should have gone well.

The team had invested weeks of effort. The feature was polished. The room was full of stakeholders who had been waiting to see the result. When the demo ended, no one spoke. Not because the work was bad, but because something more important was missing.

The team had built exactly what they set out to build. What they had not done was validate whether it solved a real customer problem. They had plenty of output, but very little understanding.
