Björn Ulvaeus at the opening of Good Evening Europe event

Visitors to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm will now have something to do in those long preshow hours. An interactive exhibition called “Good Evening, Europe!,” covering the history of the annual television competition, will open May 7, just before the start of the contest on May 10. (The finale is on May 14.)

The exhibition will be held in a space dedicated to Abba, Sweden’s most famous Eurovision winners. That space, ABBA the Museum, is a permanent part of Pop House, a hotel and space for exhibitions about Swedish popular music that contains the Swedish Music Hall of Fame.

According to news media materials, every existing Eurovision contest, which began in 1956, has been digitized. Visitors can, if they wish, access “hundreds of hours” in “a fun, TV-like setting.” They can also sing on a Eurovision stage, study the costumes of some of the artists who have taken part in the show, and test their Eurovision Song Contest knowledge with an interactive quiz.

Referring to the exhibition’s title, Ingmarie Halling, the director of the Abba museum and curator of the Eurovision display, said: “I believe everyone has heard the words ‘Good Evening, Europe!’ coming from a TV set nearby at some point in their lives.”
