We selected six of the top egg cookers based on retail sales volume, popularity based on Google searches, and the top rated ones based on Amazon review ratings. We put each of these cookers through the following test (where they had the capabilities):
- Hard-boiled
- Soft-boiled
- Poached
- Omelette
We also rated them for overall ergonomics.

Hard Boiled Egg Cooker Performance
All of the cookers were able to hard-boil an egg. The winners in this test were the Mueller Rapid Egg Cooker, Copper Chef Egg Cooker and the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker. The loser was the Cuisinart Egg Central Electric Cooker.

Soft Boiled Egg Cooker Capabilities
All cookers had the ability to soft-boil an egg. Winners were the Dash and the Hamilton Beach Electric Egg Cooker. The losers were the Maxi-Matic EGC-007 and the Mueller.

Poached Eggs in an Egg Cooker
All of our cookers but the Mueller were able to poach eggs. However, all of our units except for the Copper Chef struggled on this test. The Dash did have a notable mention.

Omelettes in an Egg Cooker
Here’s where we really ran into problems. When it came to omelets, the only one that was something you may serve was the Copper Chef. Hamilton Beach and Mueller did not have the ability to do omelettes. You’re gonna want to pull the pan out when it comes to making omelets. Cooking omelettes by way of steam is just too much to ask.

Copper Chef Egg Cooker Review
The Copper Chef was the winner and deemed the Best Egg Cooker. It features a solid overall design and performed at the top of the group in each test. Only issue, there’s no timer, leaving you to decide when your eggs are done.

Dash Rapid Egg Cooker Review
We’re calling the Dash our Co-Winner. It, like the Copper Chef, is well designed and finished at the top of the pack in each test except for the Omelete test. The Dash, unlike the Copper Chef, has a timer. Giving it the upper hand for someone looking for an egg cooker that will perform a “set it and forget” cook.

Maxi-Matic (Elite) Steamer
The Maxi-Matic was designed well, but struggled in each of our tests, except for when it came to hard-boiling an egg.

Hamilton Beach Electric Egg Cooker
This one was tough. The Hamilton Beach came out of the gates strong, excelling at the hard-boiled and soft-boiled egg test. The only problem, which was also discovered early on, is that it was constantly burning us. It built up excess condensation which would always seem to collect right under the handles — ouch.

Cuisinart Egg Central Cooker
This was the biggest disappointment of the group. The Cuisinart was the top selection of many other editorial test kitchen reviews online. Additionally, the quality and accessories were better than all the other cookers. However, from design to performance it was close to last place when compared to the other cookers in our roundup. The aluminum lid burned us on several occasions, and it did poorly in each of our test, except for the soft-boil test.

Mueller Rapid Egg Cooker Review
Wow. Let’s see: stabs you, burns you, has no on/off switch. Guess that covers the bad, more or less. It did produce the best hard-boiled eggs of all our cookers. It does not poach nor does it do omelettes. Don’t buy this one.
