Ting Grid Monitoring - Maui Wildfire Footage & Retrospective Data (8/7/2023)

On August 7th, 2023, a wildfire ignition occurred near the Maui Bird Conservation Center in the eastern region of Upcountry. The video on the right is from a camera at the Center, showing 2 short but exceptionally bright arc flashes from nearby failing utility equipment.

The chart on the left is retrospective Whisker Lab's data, streaming from several Ting sensors in the region and revealing the severe drop in voltage, objectively measuring a large, errant discharge of energy at the very instant of the arc flashes in the video.

Note: The arc faults impacted power and caused the camera to go offline for about a minute; the camera resumed operation to show the resulting fire from the arc flashes.
