VLOG: My First Time in a Log Truck (Tasmania)

For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by the logging industry and the trucks that keep it moving. I thought I'd get into it when I lived in Canada, but it never quite happened. Then in New Zealand I kept hoping for a chance to head out bush — and every time, it fell through.
Last week, all of that changed.

Thanks to the kindness of Heath Rice and his warm introduction to Dwayne from Orana Enterprises, I finally got my chance — a whole day in the Tasmanian bush with a real logging crew.

Dwayne and his sister Jac drove me out and gave me a proper behind-the-scenes look at the entire operation, from felling the trees right through to loading and transporting. Dwayne was unbelievably generous with his time, walking me through every step of how it all comes together.

Then Matthew took me out in his truck and showed me first-hand just how technical logging-truck driving really is. This isn't driving for the faint-hearted, and it's definitely not for beginners — every corner, every grade, every load matters. As an adrenaline girlie, I loved every single second. I even had a chance to take the wheel and feel how those combinations handle out there.
Tasmania is a true hidden gem. Breathtaking views around every bend — I've truly fallen in love with that island.
To everyone I met on this trip — thank you for making me feel so welcome.

A SPECIAL SHOUTOUT — RURAL ALIVE AND WELL (RAW)
This trip wouldn't have happened without Rural Alive and Well (RAW), who brought me over to Tasmania as their AGFEST ambassador.
RAW is a Tasmanian not-for-profit doing incredibly important work in rural communities across the state. Their grassroots team delivers free, confidential, non-clinical support — meeting people where they are, on the farm, in the paddock, in the pub, wherever. They focus on early-intervention suicide prevention, building mentally healthy and resilient rural communities, and reducing stigma so people reach out before challenges turn into crises. They operate statewide, including King and Flinders Island, and they run a phone service for anyone who needs to talk.
Rural communities can feel isolated, and the people working in them carry a lot. RAW are the ones quietly showing up to make sure no one has to deal with it alone. If you've got a moment, please give them a follow and share their work.
