He Had To Relive Horror, And He Won An Oscar For It

This is the remarkable story of Dr. Haing S. Ngor.

He was a Cambodian doctor turned Oscar-winning actor.

Haing S. Ngor’s life was a story of unimaginable horror and unstoppable courage. He survived four years in the Khmer Rouge’s killing fields, hiding his medical identity to avoid execution.

After escaping to America, he portrayed journalist Dith Pran in The Killing Fields, a role where he had to relive the horrors he experienced under the brutal Khmer Rouge communist regime.

Ngor used his platform not for fame, but to tell the world what happened in Cambodia.

He became a tireless advocate for justice, warning against the silence that lets atrocities repeat themselves.

In 1996, he was murdered under suspicious circumstances, many believed to be politically motivated.

He was a man who had survived genocide but was silenced in peacetime.

Ngor’s story is a haunting reminder of survival, sacrifice, and the duty to speak hard truths no matter the cost.

It disheartens me greatly to see so many students today in schools and universities championing communism.

Cambodia from 1975-1979 should be mandatory reading for them.
