Why each ear is tested separately in a hearing test

Most people do not realise why audiologists test one ear at a time rather than both together.
This episode explains that your two ears do not always hear the same way. Testing each ear separately lets us see whether your hearing is similar on both sides or whether there is a difference between them and that difference can change how the result is interpreted, and whether monitoring, further testing, or referral is needed.
Part of the Beyond the Audiogram series, helping you understand what your hearing test actually means.
Topics: hearing test, audiogram, testing each ear, asymmetry, hearing assessment, audiology, hearing health, thresholds.
This is Episode 2 of Season 2 of Beyond the Audiogram. See the full playlist for more.
