Testing AI and Human Legal Reasoning

Can AI help law students understand legal materials—or does it weaken the learning process?

In this segment, Daniel Schwarcz walks through the University of Minnesota study on AI and human legal reasoning, including the randomized control trial, the legal tasks students completed, and the hypothesis the researchers set out to test.

The study examines whether students who used AI to synthesize legal materials could still apply those rules later when the AI was taken away.
