The Peasants' Revolt 1381 - History Year 7

Year 7 (KS3)

The Peasants' Revolt of 1381, started when a tax collector tried to levy the poll tax in Essex. The revolt spread to Kent, and before long the rebels led by a man called Wat Tyler had reached London. The rebels attacked government buildings and murdered government officials such as Lord Chancellor, Simon of Sudbury. The rebels met with 14 year old King Richard II at Mile End, Richard agreed to the rebels demands, and the peasants went home. Richard would later send troops into Kent and Essex, hanging men who had taken part in the revolt. The Peasants' Revolt was the most serious rebellion of the middles ages in England.
