Melanistic White tail Mongoose

In April 2022, I led a six-night private photo tour to MalaMala Game Reserve, South Africa.

A private tour allowed to me focus solely on my guest's wants and needs, as well as spend time at certain sightings that she was interested in.

On the game drive back to the camp for the evening we came across a rare sighting. A personal first for me and my guest alike, a completely black White-tailed Mongoose. This is a melanistic individual! It has an increased amount of melanin, black or nearly black pigmentation causing the ‘white’ tail to be black.
