Vierne - 2 Pieces for Viola & Piano.

These two pieces for viola and piano op. 5 were composed by Louis Vierne (1870 - 1934), in 1895, when he was still at the conservatory.
Franck Besingrand said about these pieces that they are "remarquables d'expressivité et de concision : Le Soir déroule avec délicatesse une mélodie ample et lyrique, tandis que Légende s'offre comme une véritable sicilienne, assez virevoltante et d'allure toute fauréenne." (remarkable of expressiveness and conciseness : Le Soir delicately unfolds an ample and lyrical melody, while Legende reveals a true Siciliana quite twirling and in a Fauré - like pace). The composer is mostly known for his organ works. But he wrote many chamber works, too, such as his touching Piano Quintet filled with dark lyrism.
