Swingin' A's 1973 World Series Gm. 1 vs. Mets

In 1973, the A’s slugged their way to another AL West title behind Jackson’s fantastic season: His 32 homers and 117 RBIs earned him the team’s second MVP Award in three years. In the Postseason, the A’s edged the New York Mets in a seven-game World Series, and Jackson, who hit .310, was named MVP. When the A’s closed out Game 7 at the Coliseum, they became the first Bay Area team to win a championship in front of its home fans. They also became the first team other than the New York Yankees to successfully defend a World Series title in nearly half a century, since the 1930 Philadelphia Athletics.

The first era of the A’s in Oakland, known as the “Swingin’ A’s,” won three consecutive World Series championships in the early 1970s, something only one other Major League franchise (the Yankees) has ever been able to equal.
