Zwa Maramani | Electricity tariffs: 13 October 2021

ENGLISH: Consumers have asked government to reconsider Eskom’s electricity tariff increase as unjustified. Electricity tariffs have increased by 15 percent. Civil society organisations have decried the increase stating that ordinary South Africans, particularly those in the lower-income bracket, cannot afford steep year-on-year increases. They raised the issue of units saying they’re not enough as they don’t last the month and they end up paying more. Zwa Maramani spoke with some of the residents of Pfananani, Tshiawelo, in Gauteng province about their challenges for not having electricity for some time. Mrs. Phophi Ndou is one of the residents
