Warriors Sandbox - Speedpaint #5: Redwish AU

This is a bit of an out-there AU, but it's one that I really like! Basically, this is: "what if the fox cub Hollyleaf had found in the tunnels actually returned with her to ThunderClan?"

For those of you who don't know, in Hollyleaf's novella, she meets a lost fox cub in the tunnels and takes care of him for a little bit, before he returns to his mother. The fox cub eventually grows into a "real" fox and doesn't recognize, angsty, blah blah blah, but I thought it'd be really interesting if he actually DID stay with Hollyleaf.

Here's some overview/notes/random ideas I had for this AU:

- Hollyleaf raises the fox cub in the tunnels, and she starts trying to teach him to speak cat. Fallen Leaves is very doubtful, but slowly the cub begins speaking some simple sentences. Hollyleaf names him "Redpup" (reminiscent of a Clan -kit name) and talks all about ThunderClan, revealing her longing to go back.

- When Hollyleaf returns, obviously everyone is super upset at a FOX being in the camp - plus Redpup is about six months old and an almost full grown animal at this point. Hollyleaf, at this point inwardly considering Redpup her son, angrily leaves the Clan and says she won't come back until he's allowed. After a lot of time missing his granddaughter, Firestar relents.

- But of course tons of cats are upset at this. After a moon or so, Firestar agrees to let Redpup become Redpaw and be trained, but no cat wants to be his mentor. Hollyleaf, in annoyance, does it herself.

- Redpaw trains as hard as he can, still learning to speak while communicating through fragmented sentences, and in some time becomes able to. Jayfeather comes around to him by realizing that Redpaw is just like he was; someone who is young and scared and feels judged by everyone around him. Lionblaze comes around when he is in a training match with Redpaw, and feels a moment of terror once Redpaw pins him and thinks he's about to die, but Redpaw steps off, looking for assurance. Lionblaze realizes he's more than just a fox.

- During the Great Battle, when Hollyleaf saves Ivypool, just as Hawkfrost is about to kill her, Redwish rushes in and drags him off, flinging him at Brambleclaw's feet where Hawk is killed. Most of ThunderClan see Redwish through new eyes, realizing he really is fighting for ThunderClan now.

- Earlier during Redpaw being in ThunderClan, the other Clans find out and vote at a Gathering that Redpaw can never fight in any battles, as it would be unfair to the other Clans. Outvoted, ThunderClan has to agree. The only time this was lifted was in the Great Battle.

- Since Hollyleaf never died, Lionblaze's son Hollytuft is named Foxkit instead, after Redwish, and also Foxleap, who died in the Great Battle.
