1W amp built from LM386 and spare parts. MASSIVE DOOM TONE

Goal of this video was to see if I could build an amp with spare parts around the shop. Results were not as expected but still pretty cool nonetheless.

This amplifier was based off the Little Gem 2 by runoffgroove which you can find schematics here http://www.runoffgroove.com/littlegem.html

I did not have all the parts necessary to build it as drawn so I had to improvise a little bit. The end result was a bridged LM386 preamp and power amplifier. While in the midst of the project I felt like a bridged power section really compromised your versatility as you would have to essentially double any tone controls or tone shaping circuitry.

A ridiculous amount of distortion was achieved by bridging pins 1 and 8 of each LM386 together with a 10uF capacitor and then connecting them to each other. A result was nasty thick distortion with out of tune harmonic overtones.

It would be very cool to experiment with some more with building small amps from these chips but the purpose of the video was to crank out an amp in an afternoon.

Enjoy!
