When it comes to heritage, history and art, culture vultures will love all that Abu Dhabi has to offer. The iconic Louvre Abu Dhabi is the best art museum in Abu Dhabi. As one of the premier cultural museums located in the heart of Saadiyat Cultural District on Saadiyat Island, Louvre Abu Dhabi displays works of historical, cultural and sociological significance. Make sure you stop by the first universal museum in the Arab world – the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

You’ll be in awe at the enormous dome of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, composed of 7,850 stars that filter light through their perforations, creating a dazzling display known as the ‘rain of light’. A symphony in concrete, water and the subtle play of reflected light, the incredible structure was inspired by the region’s rich architectural traditions and the museum’s unique location. Louvre Abu Dhabi was designed by Pritzker-prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel and encompasses 9,200 square metres of galleries.

Once you’ve marvelled at the magnificence of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, immerse yourself in an authentic Emirati experience, like shopping at a souk (market). There are many souks to explore, such as Al Ain Souk, Souk Al Bawadi, Souk Al Qaws, Souk Al Zafarana and the family-friendly Qaryat Al Torath Heritage Village which features 32 souk stalls offering a variety of traditional Emirati handicrafts and foods. Visitors can watch Bedouin (nomadic Arab people) women at work creating beautiful craft pieces while also exploring traditional clothing, spices, perfumes, date palm products and accessories. This is a great place to pick up a memento from your UAE trip or gifts for family and friends back home. Dining options include authentic Emirati fare from several kitchens selling traditional tea, Arabic dishes and moreish sweets.

Another cultural masterpiece is the impressive and inspiring Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – one of the world’s largest mosques and the only one that captures the unique interactions between Islam and other world cultures. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founder of the UAE, had a very specific vision for this mosque: to incorporate architectural styles from different Muslim civilisations and celebrate cultural diversity by creating a haven that is truly welcoming and inspirational in its foundation. The mosque’s architects were British, Italian and Emirati, with design ideas borrowed from parts of Turkey, Morocco, Pakistan and Egypt, among other Islamic countries. The end result is a breathtaking, gleaming architectural marvel.

So, if you’re visiting the United Arab Emirates and you’ll be in Dubai, whether you’re on a Dubai vacation or a business trip, try to add a few days to your itinerary and visit Abu Dhabi before or after your Dubai trip.
