The Duffer Brothers cast their own high school drama teacher, Hope Hynes Love, in Stranger Things

In late November 2025, following the release of Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1, Ross Duffer shared a heartfelt Instagram post revealing that Miss Harris is played by Hope Hynes Love, who was their drama teacher at C.E. Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina. Ross wrote: "High school was rough for me and my brother. But Hope saw something in us we didn’t see in ourselves — and she helped give us the confidence to not only survive those four years, but to move to LA and chase our dreams." Love, now an artistic director and theatre teacher at East Chapel Hill High School, was delighted when the brothers asked her to join the show. She reunited with Matt and Ross on set, describing the experience as surreal and wonderful. The casting was a personal tribute to the teacher who encouraged their early creative pursuits in high school theater—long before Stranger Things became a global phenomenon. Love appears in multiple episodes in Season 5, adding a sweet, full-circle touch to the finale's emotional payoff.
