The Power of Music: Brian Eno and David Mitchell in Conversation
Novelist David Mitchell is joined by artist and producer Brian Eno, for a conversation celebrating the power of music to connect across divisions, and its ability to inspire new writing.
Both long-term fans of each other’s work, David and Brian have yet to share a stage. Join us for this unique online discussion, chaired by journalist and documentary filmmaker Kieran Yates.
Presented in association with the Royal Society for Literature as part of its bicentenary celebrations Literature Matters: RSL 200, an event series bringing together RSL Fellows and some of the world’s best-known writers to explore the impact of literature on their lives.
Brian Eno, musician, producer, visual artist and activist, first came to prominence as a founding member of Roxy Music. His visionary production includes albums with Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Laurie Anderson and Coldplay, while his list of collaborations include recordings with David Bowie, David Byrne, Grace Jones, Karl Hyde and James Blake. His visual experiments with light and video continue to parallel his musical career with exhibitions all over the globe.

He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2013. Twice shortlisted for the Booker Prize, he has won the John Llewellyn Rhys, Geoffrey Faber Memorial and South Bank Show Literature Prizes, among others, and been named a Granta Best Young British Novelist.
