My TOP 3 TIPS for better Drone Shots 🚁
Over the years of flying DJI drones, I’ve learned many tips and techniques for getting the absolute most out of them and capturing unique footage. With drones becoming more and more popular, how do you stand out from the crowd with your footage? Here are some of my top tips:
1.) USE FOREGROUND 🏔️
Using foreground elements such as trees, rocks or mountainsides to reveal your subject/location is an instant way of making your shot look that bit better. It allows the viewer to see the scale of your location or your subject in relation to the location.
2.) SHOOT IN D-LOG 🎥
If you really want to get the most out of your footage when it comes to colour grading and editing the footage. Shoot in D-Log/D-LogM. This is the flattest colour profile on most DJI drones including the Mavic 3, Air 3, Air 2S, Mavic Pro etc. It retains the most detail and information in the brightest and darkest parts of your shot, allowing you to recover information and manipulate the image in post to achieve a superior result to if you were using the normal colour profile.
3.) SHOOT TOP DOWN SHOTS 🦅
One of the most overlooked drone angles is the Birds Eye. It is easily one of the most interesting angles that will make your footage stand out, no matter what the subject. Just point the camera straight down and fly forward, backward or straight up and showcase your subject. This shot works particularly well at the beach or with running water 🌊
