how to identify Atrial fibrillation in an ECG/EKG.
Atrial Fibrillation (Afib) is the most common misdiagnosed rhythm abnormality.
There will be asynchronous contractility of the atria due to re-entry circuits that develop in the setting of an enlarged Left Atria. Usually it will be associated with mitral stenosis or myocardial infarctions.
It can be easily suspected by palpation of pulse, the presence of an irregularly irregular pulse should raise the suspicion of Afib.
treatment will include, rate control with calcium channel blockers or Rhythm control by pharmacological or By synchronised DC cardioversion.
Afib has high likelihood for development of clots in the LA,
so it usually requires the addition of warfarin/ antiplatelets.
can you comment down the score which helps us to determine whether or not to start antiplatelet therapy.
