Japan's Best Tonkatsu | $300 Rodman Tshirt

We're back again with the entire family and this time, we're taking you with us on a bike tour around Mishima, Shizuoka. For our first stop, my sister is taking us to a local spot that she's deemed "The Best Tonkatsu in Japan". She's been traveling throughout Japan trying different dishes, exploring the best local spots hidden from tourists. For the first time ever on the internet, we're taking you to Mishima's iconic Daijin Katsu. My sister has been visiting for years, so you'll notice we're being introduced as we enter the restaurant. Very limited seating and short service hours, but if you have the opportunity to visit, I highly recommend. The tonkatsu is unmatched with its signature thick cuts and expertly thin breaded coating, certainly a rare find. The side dishes are always fresh with the set coming with a hearty red miso soup (with meat, tofu and onions), Japanese noodles, parsley, salad, pickles, rice, green tea and the generous portion of tonkatsu (they offer other dishes as well like Ebi, marinated pork, etc).

Next stop on our tour is to Kakita River Park where 柿田川豆腐館 (tofu ice cream) is located and they serve a lot of tofu dishes and products including something I've never had before: Tofu Ice Cream. One of the tastiest things I've tried so far in Japan, it's creamy, light and flavourful and they come in many fresh varieties. Strawberry, Matcha, Kinako with honey, a seasonal Potato flavour and the classic plain Tofu Ice Cream. I don't think this is available in a lot of places, definitely a must visit when you're in Shizuoka.

A new discovery for us while waiting for our seats at Daijin Katsu is 000 Vintage. It's a cafe bar that sells taco rice and has an impeccable curation of vintage clothing. They have very beautiful vintage band tshirts, Levi's and Carhartt. The Dennis Rodman tee I wanted was about $300 though, so do expect things to be priced according to market. Still, definitely a must visit!

Bonus: Trisha tried her luck at the Gashapon (gachapon?) arcade to get a toy of her favourite BTS member, Jungkook. I guess the BTS takeover is complete at this point.
