The supercouple phenomenon known as Bennifer was born on the set of "Gigli" in 2002, when two of the biggest names in Hollywood fell for each other. A media frenzy surrounded Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez from the start, and the couple did little to quell the attention with frequent public sightings, extravagant gifts for each other, a cameo by Ben in Jennifer's "Jenny From the Block" music video, and an engagement featuring a six-carat pink diamond.

The couple's downfall began in July 2003 when, on the night their first joint, sit-down interview aired on NBC, Ben was seen out at a strip club sans Jen. The visit sparked tawdry tabloid stories, but the two soldiered on - bearing the embarrassment of the box office and critical bomb "Gigli" became infamous for. In September 2003, a handful of days before their wedding, in Ben reportedly got cold feet and the whole event was called off. The two continued seeing each other off and on until January 2004, when they finally called it quits for good.
