Henna + Indigo - How To | DIY Black Hair Dye | Henna on Natural Hair | Tia Kirby

In this video I partnered with Henna Sooq to show you how to DIY Dye Your Hair Black with Henna & Indigo. I'm using a two part system starting with Henna then following up with Indigo on my Natural Hair. This two step process can be used on all hair types.

THE 2 STEP HENNA + INDIGO PROCESS:

For my thick nearly waist length hair - I start by mixing two 100 gram packs of Henna Sooq Red Raj Henna & 1/2 of one pack of 100 gram pack Henna Sooq Cassia Powder. Then I boil 4 personal sized green tea bags in three cups of water. Once it's boiling and tea is done seeping, I gradually mix it into my Henna + Cassia Powder mixture. Continue to add gradually stirring until it's a pudding like consistency. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit overnight at least 6 hours or overnight for dye release. **Note: If your hair is thinner or shorter you may want to start with using only one pack of henna and only 3 tea bags in 2 cups of water. However, you are able to freeze any leftover henna mix.

Next day I thoroughly rinse my hair clean but not shampoo. I then wrap my hair in a microfiber towel or t-shirt and let it soak up the water for 45 minutes - 1 hour until my hair is damp. Once it's damp, I part my hair into 4 sections and apply henna first at the root then in small sections and go back and apply to the full length of my hair in small sections to assure that I got all of it covered.

Once all of the henna is applied I then wrap it in Saran Wrap and leave it on 4-6 hours or overnight. Once the processing time in my hair is done, I thoroughly rinse my hair with water until all of the henna is out of my hair. I follow the same method of plopping my hair in a microfiber towel or t-shirt until damp, usually about 45 minutes - 1 hour.

Step 2: Here's where the black comes in using Indigo. **Note - in order for the Indigo to work you must do the Henna process first to prep the hair to receive the rich black dye. This is a great natural way to cover grays or just get that rich blue black hair color. While my hair is in the towel I Mix 3 cups of boiling water gradually into two 100 gram packs of Henna Sooq Indigo Powder. Let it sit for 15-45 minutes and apply to damp hair. Again, I always like to apply to the roots first then to then down the length of my hair. Wrap again in saran wrap & leave on for 4 - 6 hours then rinse out thoroughly with only water. Once my hair is rinsed thoroughly, I wash with a cowash or gentle cleanser and then deep condition. Then style as normal!

It's the perfect natural way to dye your hair and you reap so many amazing benefits from the process. Henna is known to be a great protein treatment, great for adding shine, defining your curls, conditioning your hair, filling in the gaps within your hair strands making them thicker and stronger, and it helps with length retention. On top of the rich permanent color affects without causing damage to your hair with chemicals.
