Live: Boris Johnson presents new lockdown measure to parliament

Boris Johnson will today attempt to head off a major Conservative rebellion over his four-week national lockdown by insisting he plans to lift the new measures on December 2.

Senior ministers and the government’s scientific advisers fear the lockdown may have to be extended to a date nearer Christmas, and “rolling lockdowns” could continue into next year.

The prime minister will begin a marathon statement in parliament where he will come under heavy fire from his own side both over the new lockdown measure to parliament No. 10 handled the announcement over the weekend.
