Create a New Layer
In this tutorial we are going to show how we can create a new layer and we are going to explain the meaning of the current layer.

The current drawing has a square object. We open the properties window and we can see that the object is on layer zero.

In the home tab, in the layers panel, we click the layer properties button. The layer properties manager window appears. In the layer properties manager window we can find the list of all layers that exist in the drawing. We can see that there is only one layer named zero. The zero layer is created by default when we create a new drawing and it cannot be deleted.

To create a new layer we click the new layer button. A new layer is added to the list. We modify the name of the layer as Square. The new layer is ready to be used.

We select the square object. We open the properties window and we change the layer property to square.

In the layer properties manager we can see that on the zero layer there is a green tick on the left of the name column. This means that this is the current layer. The current layer can also be found as the current selection in the selection box that appears in the layers panel, within the home tab. The meaning of the current layer is that any new object that we create is placed automatically on the current layer. We select the square layer. To make this layer current we click the set current button. The square layer is now the current layer. We clarify that there can be only one current layer at any time.

We create another square object. We open the properties window and we can see that the new square was automatically placed on the square layer.

In this tutorial we learned how to create a new layer and how to assign it to an object. We also learned that the current layer is the layer on which any new object we create is placed automatically.
